Hash Browns Recipe

Instructions:

  1. Begin by placing the canned potatoes into a spacious bowl and, using a fork or masher, crush them until you achieve a texture resembling very lumpy mashed potatoes. Simultaneously, coarsely grate the fresh potatoes into a clean and dry tea towel. Squeeze out as much liquid as possible from the grated potatoes and then incorporate them into the mashed canned potatoes. Introduce the grated onion along with a touch of seasoning, and use your hands to thoroughly combine all the ingredients.
  2. Divide the resultant mixture into 8 equal parts. Mold each portion into a rectangular shape measuring about 7cm x 5cm and with a thickness of 2cm. Any loose strands of potato can be gently pushed back into the mixture – a practice we might humorously refer to as “potato squishing.”
  3. Preheat your air fryer to 200°C. Line the air fryer basket with parchment paper and place 4 of the formed hash browns into the basket. Spritz them with low-calorie cooking spray and air fry for approximately 15-20 minutes or until they attain a golden hue and are thoroughly cooked, making sure to turn them halfway through the process. Set the cooked hash browns aside on a plate and cover them with foil. Repeat this step to cook the remaining hash browns, returning the first batch for a few minutes to reheat them as needed.
  4. These delectable hash browns pair wonderfully with a touch of tomato ketchup (equating to 1 Syn per level tablespoon) and make an excellent addition to a cooked breakfast. However, they’re versatile enough to complement a wide range of dishes.

Tips:

  1. To make these in the oven: Put the hash browns on a non-stick baking tray and cook at 220°C/fan 200°C/gas 7 for 15-20 minutes.
  2. Air Fryer Preheating: Preheat your air fryer to 200°C as instructed in the recipe. This ensures that the hash browns cook evenly and become crispy.
  3. Use Baking Paper: Line the air fryer basket with baking paper to prevent the hash browns from sticking. It also makes cleanup easier.
  4. Low-Calorie Cooking Spray: Use a low-calorie cooking spray to lightly coat the hash browns before air frying. This helps them achieve a crispy exterior without excessive oil.
