About Time:

  • Total Time: 40 minutes

Ingredients:

  • Use a low-calorie cooking spray
  • 2 large onions, roughly chopped
  • 400g of dried pasta shapes, such as fusilli or spirali
  • 500g of lean beef mince with 5% fat or less
  • 6 large tomatoes, sliced
  • 80g of coarsely grated reduced-fat Cheddar (or see tip)

Instructions:

  1. In a medium-sized saucepan, spray low-calorie cooking spray and heat it over medium-low heat. Add the roughly chopped onions, cover the pan, and cook for 10 minutes.
  2. Meanwhile, cook the pasta according to the instructions on the packaging. However, before the recommended cooking time is complete, drain the pasta and return it to the pan.
  3. Remove the cover from the onions and increase the heat to high. Add the lean beef mince and fry it for approximately 5 minutes or until it turns brown, ensuring to break up any lumps. Remove any excess liquid and lightly season the beef.
  4. Preheat the grill to a high temperature.
  5. Combine the cooked beef with the pasta. Spoon half of this mixture into a shallow baking dish, then cover it with half of the sliced tomatoes. Lightly season the ingredients and place the dish under the grill for 5-7 minutes.
  6. Sprinkle half of the coarsely grated reduced-fat Cheddar over the baked mixture, then layer the remaining pasta, beef, and tomatoes on top. Grill the dish for 5 minutes, and then sprinkle the remaining cheese over it. Continue grilling for an additional 2 minutes, or until the top turns golden.
  7. Divide the prepared pasta bake into 4 portions and serve them on separate plates. Enjoy!
